National school to be relocated from CBD following Matiang’i's order

Sh100 million set aside for a new compound, 20 kilometres from town

One of Kenyas leading girl high schools will now be relocated from its location following a directive from acting Education CS Fred Matiangi.

Mama Ngina Girls Secondary School, which is located in the congested Mombasa City's CBD, will be relocated to Shimo La Tewa area, about 20 kilometres from its current location.

Challenges

Despite its status as an academic giant in the Coast region, Mama Ngina Girls High School has faced the challenge of expansion as it sits on a one-acre piece of land.

On Wednesday, Matiang'i visited the Mombasa-based national school where he announced that the government would make a Sh100 million grant to facilitate its relocation.

The new school compound will be ten acres in size, and will allow increased student admissions.

School revamping

The move comes two months after Tourism CS Najib Balala visited the high school and promised to lobby for its revamping.

"This is a national school Madam Omar …We are very proud of Mama Ngina girls high school and we want to support it. I am going to lobby for this school to be rebuilt," Balala stated last year in November.
