ODM leader Raila Odinga on Monday joined the family of Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli in mourning his sister.

The Tanzanian President’s sister, Monica Joseph Magufuli, died on Sunday morning at Bugando Medical Centre in Mwanza where she had been admitted for treatment.

Raila, who is a close family friend of the Magufulis, expressed solidarity with the family.

“I have learnt with sorrow of the passing of Ms. Monica Joseph Magufuli, sister to H.E President My sincere condolences to the family and the people of Tanzania at this time of mourning. We are together in sorrow,” Odinga said.

The two families have a long-running political and personal relationship.

In 2015, when Odinga’s son, Fidel, passed on, Magufuli led a delegation from Tanzania to console with the ODM leader.
