Museveni said the First Son came to him with the idea of involving the national army in repairing the city’s rampant potholes.

Gen Muhoozi asked me to involve the SFC (Special Forces Command) in doing the Kampala potholes,” President Museveni revealed at the recent Uganda Prisons pass-out function.

Upcountry the roads are very good but here apparently, you are very rich in potholes.”

According to the president, Gen Muhoozi came to him because some companies sought after by KCCA had quoted Shs. 12 billion to fix the potholes, yet the SFC could do it for much less.

We have the SFC engineering brigade, and (Gen Muhoozi) told me they can do it at only Shs 2.7 billion. Look at that kind of waste. With the money they are asking you can do 5 times that work!”

In May this year, at the height of the online protests about the poor condition of roads in Kampala, President Museveni wrote to Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja directing her to get the SFC onto the city road repairs.

This is to direct you to cause the relevant agencies of government to allow KCCA to directly work with the SFC Construction Regiment to repair the famous potholes in Kampala City,” the president’s letter read in part.

Subsequently, the Prime Minister held a meeting with KCCA Executive Director, Dorothy Kisaka, UNRA Executive Director, Allen Kagina and the Uganda Road Fund Executive Director, Dr. Andrew Naimanye among other officials.
