Opposition leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday truck a new deal with Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru after holding a private meeting.

The two agreed to settle a long-standing defamation suit away from the courts.

"In the spirit of cohesion and reconciliation in the country, the matter stands settled," she revealed.

Waiguru had sued the former Prime Minister for linking her to the loss of Sh791 million from the National Youth Service (NYS).

The former PM had gone as far as to demand an audit of Waiguru's lifestyle during the proceedings of the case.

Though Waiguru complied, she declined to answer some questions that were asked. She later accused the ODM party leader of attempting to obstruct justice with various delays.

"Throughout the course of this matter, Mr Odinga has made numerous attempts to delay the matter, including failing to comply with civil procedure rules and requesting adjournments on a number of occasions.

"It is only just that I am given an opportunity to clear my name in a timely fashion," Waiguru argued previously in court papers.
