Kenyans online trolled Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu after a Christmas photo of him went viral.

In the picture, Waititu was photographed launching a Christmas tree which left many Kenyans laughing and questioning his leadership style.

Other Kenyans questioned the Kiambu governor for unveiling the Christmas tree instead of a project that could benefit the county.

"While other governors are launching hospitals, @Waititu_Babayao is launching an x-mass tree where did we go wrong as a county jameni," Annis Mukami a Tweep asked.

Pulselive.co.ke established that Waititu and his wife held a special charity Christmas Tree lighting ceremony at the Kiambu County headquarters.

"This evening I held a charity Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at the Kiambu County Headquarters in Kiambu Town," the Kiambu County boss stated.

"My county government through the office of the first Lady in collaboration with the department of social services identified the needy and vulnerable institution in each Sub County to benefit from our Christmas donations," he added.

In a post on his official Facebook account, Waititu stated that he did not buy an artificial Christmas tree he opted to decorate a real tree and donate the proceeds to a charity organization.

"Rather than spend exorbitant amounts of money to buy a Christmas tree, I channelled my donations and those of corporate and individual well-wishers towards buying foodstuffs and blankets to needy children in 12 children's homes in Kiambu," Waititu clarified.
