Details have emerged of an alliance in the offing bringing together President Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi and Gideon Moi and complicating things for DP William Ruto who is keen on succeeding President Kenyatta.

Yesterday, Tiaty MP William Kamket, a close ally of Kanu chairman Gideon Moi confirmed that President Kenyatta, Mr Odinga and Mr Mudavadi would work together for the sake of 2022 elections.

Multiple sources confirmed that allies to the three leading opposition politicians have thrown the spanner into works, with a key meeting held last week and which was to be graced by Jubilee party Vice Chair David Murathe and former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando.

Well-placed sources familiar with the behind the scenes dealings confirmed that politicians from the Mt Kenya region are fully behind the emerging alliance built around the clamour for a referendum and would declare their support in due course.

Earlier this week, Murathe attracted the wrath of DP Ruto’s allies after he made it clear that Jubilee has not yet taken a position despite DP Ruto touring different regions opposing the push for a referendum and maintaining that his match to State House is unstoppable.

He is going around opposing the referendum. Jubilee is yet to take a position. What is he opposing yet there is no question," Murathe said.

Veteran politician Maina Kamanda threw his weight behind Murathe’s remarks, maintaining that his views represented the position of most of Jubilee party politicians.

“When the right time comes, we will say the same things Mr Murathe has said but for now let us just focus on the unity of the country,” Mr Kamanda said.

“Let those condemning Mr Murathe stop because what he said is what majority of jubilee party members are saying silently when you speak to them.” He added.
