The former chairman of the National Authority for Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada), John Mututho has introduced a new drug to help Kenyans stay sober.
Mututho, has partnered with an Indian company, to introduce the first drug proven to help alcohol addicts, stay away from changaa, busaa, makali and even the brown bottle for good.
Naltrexone, is a medicine manufactured by Rusan Pharma Ltd, an Indian firm to help alcoholics stay cold dead sober.
The chairman Rusan Pharma Ltd, Nevin Saxena, while launching the ‘life changing medicine’ said the drug had already proven successful in India and introducing it in Kenya would help alleviate the suffering of the six million people said to be hooked on alcohol.

Dr Saxena, described naltrexone as non-addictive, non-narcotic medicine that attaches to the opiate receptors in an addicts' brain, which contribute to the pleasurable effects alcoholics feel when drinking alcohol.
So what is this magic drug and does it really work?
According to WebMD, Naltrexone is medication used to prevent people who have addicted to certain drugs (Opiates) from taking them again, it is used as part of a complete treatment program for drug abuse (e.g., compliance monitoring, counseling, behavioral contract, lifestyle changes).
Naltrexone belongs to a class of drugs known as opiate antagonists.
How does it work?
Naltrexone works by blocking, the euphoric effects and feelings of intoxication. This allows people with alcohol addiction to reduce their drinking behaviors enough to remain motivated to stay in treatment and avoid relapses.
Naltrexone is not addictive neither does it react adversely with alcohol.
Side effects
People taking naltrexone may experience some side effects like, stomach upsets or vomiting, Diarrhea, Sleep problems/tiredness Joint or muscle pain among many other effects.
