As Robin Njogu reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle when trying to avoid hitting a boda-boda rider and rammed into the guard rails.
This confirmed an earlier eye-witness report of the accident. “I was right behind the Governor’s car heading from Nyeri to Nairobi when I saw a boda-boda driver carrying a box of meat confuse the Governor’s driver. The motorbike suddenly appeared on the road from the side and there was a lorry ahead of him. So he tried to overtake the lorry by getting onto the lane where the Governor’s vehicle was. The Governor's driver was shocked by the motorbike's sudden appearance and so he swerved to avoid killing the boda-boda driver. But upon swerving the car hit the guard rails. The guard rails then became erect like a person and that is when I saw a tyre fly in the air. ” Eyewitness Dennis Muigai told Citizen TV.
