Acting Interior CS Fred Matiangi has now stated that he will de-register all driving schools in Kenya as part of his drastic measures to reduce road accidents in the country.
Speaking on Tuesday, the no-nonsense CS stated that part of the problem in Kenyan roads has been licenses giving to drivers who are incompetent.
He stated that the government would de-register all the existing driving schools and have a fresh vetting process to ensure those who train drivers are well qualified.
The Interior CS added that the renewal process for Kenyan drivers would be reviewed to ensure that driving licenses are only availed to qualified drivers.
"We will not be giving you a license and you live with it forever. Some of the drivers suffer medical conditions after they have received their licenses and that's why we will include a medical test when you renew your license," Matiangi stated.
He was accompanied by his Cabinet colleague in the Transport docket, James Macharia.
The country has been grappling with the problem of road accidents which has caused the deaths of over a hundred people in the past two months alone.
