Kenya Prisons fail to arrest Al Ahly of Egypt while in Tunisia

The Africa men club championships kicked off on March 18 in Tunisia with a total of 18 teams participating.

Kenya representatives Kenya Prisons were eliminated on Thursday from the ongoing club championships in Tunisia after falling to record holders Al Ahly of Egypt in the quarter finals.

Seeking their 12th African title, the Egyptian giants Ahly were too strong for the Kenyan side that won by three straight sets of 25-15, 25-13 and 25-19.

Al Ahly of Egypt will now face Algeria who beat Cameroon in the quarter finals.

Prisons qualified for the quarter finals after finishing second in Group D with two wins against Police from Benin and Congo's Espoir and one loss against group leaders Etoile Du Sahel of Tunisia.

In another hotly contested quarter final Etoile defeated Esperance 3-2 (19-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 15-17) in a fierce Tunisian derby while Libyan side Swehly qualified for the semifinals with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-28) triumph over compatriots Assarya.

Kenya Prisons coached by Gideon Chenje had early walked over Espoir of Congo by three sets to nil 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-13) in group D.

Prison will next play Al Ahly of Egypt in the quarter finals having finished second of Group D behind leaders Etoile Du Sahel of Tunisia.

Ahly on Tuesday also completed their unbeaten record to finsih at the top of Group A after edging hard fighting Ahly Benghazi of Libya 3-1 (25-19, 25-17, 24-26, 25-17) in  a tense group A fixture.

Pool B:  FAP( Cameroon), Alnabda( Sudan) ,As Finances(Benin) and Alswehly(Libya)

Pool C Bordj(Algeria), Police Vi(Botswana), Kibango(Rwanda), Dounes( Burundi) and Assarya(Libya).

Pool D: Etoile du Sahel (TUN)- Prisons (KEN)- Espoir (COD)- AS Police (Benin)

The winners of the two-week tournament will represent Africa at the 2017 women and Men's Club World Championship in Brazil in May.
