The mayor of an Italian village is hoping to boost its dwindling population of 394 by offering a bonus of €2,000 (£1,700) to anyone willing to move there.

Daniele Galliano, mayor of Bormida, a rural commune in the mountainous Liguria region of Italy, posted an ad on Facebook last Thursday seeking new inhabitants to the picturesque village.
While the nearest big city — Genoa — is 50 miles away, newcomers would benefit from a proposed rent of just €50 (£40) a month for small properties, and €120 (£101) per month for bigger properties, according to Galliano.
The post, which has prompted responses from people willing to relocate from the likes of the UK, US, Brazil, and Uganda, can be seen below:

Galliano took to the social media site again on Tuesday to thank people for the huge interest in moving to Bormida, adding that in just two days they had "reached their goal."
However, he added that this was still only a proposal, and must be approved by the municipal council.
