Healthy twins born in Turkana County on Friday made history in the area after their successful delivery.

Announcing the milestone in his county, Governor Josphat Nanok explained that five medics in Lorugum Sub County Hospital, Loima had successfully done the first ever cesarean delivery in the area.

An elated governor lauded the team for the historic c-section while reiterating his administration's commitment to the Universal Healthcare pillar of President Uhuru Kenyatta's Big Four Agenda.

"Congratulations to a team of specialists led by Dr Ekiru Kidalio for performing the first cesearian delivery in Lorugum Sub County Hospital, Loima.

"This is a great result of investment to make specialized Healthcare accessible to Turkana residents in line with attainment of UHC," the governor stated.

Health services inaccessible

Research conducted by the University of Nairobi in 2012 established that women in the Loima area are not likely to deliver at a health facility hence the difficulty in handling complex procedures.

The researchers recommended proper education on danger signs during pregnancy, emphasizing to the community the importance of health facility delivery.
