Embakasi East MP Babu Owino on Thursday led a section of MPs in defending controversial preacher and self-declared Prohet David Owuor.
Owino address the media alongside Igembe South MP John Paul Mwirigi and nominated MP Gideon Keter.
The legislators accused the media of unfairly targeting the Church, claiming there was an elaborate plan to sabotage Owuor’s ministry.
“We will pray and forgive those fighting the church,” he said.
“Mimi ni mtoto wa misa (I am a follower of his preaching and I encourage Prophet Owuor to continue serving the flock,” Owino stated.
Preachers to have academic degrees
Keter, on his part, condemned the proposal to regulate teaching by requiring all church preachers to have theology-related degrees.
“Some people want to ground the church, those who are saying pastors should have a degree are wrong,” Keter stated.
Owuor has recently come on the spotlight after a member of his Repentance and Holiness Ministry accused him of hatching a plan to fraudulently acquire her multi-billion assets in Nairobi.
Jayne Muthoni, together with his family members, said she was brain washed and made to appoint a member of Owuor’s church as a co-director in her company.
The DCI is currently probing the matter to determine if there was a criminal conduct on Owuor and his close associates in the controversial change of ownership and in use of the rental income from Muthoni’s prime properties.
