20 others were injured in the dawn accident after a bus burst into flames in a head-on collision with a lorry at Civicon area near Emali on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
Those injured were rushed to the Sultan Hamud and Kilome Hospitals.

Makueni County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim confirmed the deaths and described the accident as a nasty one.
The stretch of the road in Emali on the busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway is known to be a major blackspot with scores having been killed in multiple accidents.
