For a better part of Saturday, rumors went viral on social media that the governor who is being held over the gruesome murder of Sharon Otieno had fallen ill on Friday night and that he was contemplating suicide.

Gigiri OCPD Richard Muguai dismissed the claims, confirming that the governor is in good health in police custody and would be presented in court on Monday.

“People are trying to cause panic. All those are lies. Mheshimiwa Obado is in good health. Nothing of the sort that has been said in the social media is true." Muguai said.

K24 reported that the Obado is being held in the same cell with a suspect in the shooting of former Garissa County minister Idriss Mukhtar.

The distraught governor is also reported to have declined any food while in police custody unless it is prepared by his wife.

Police have arrested several suspects close to the governor over the murder that shook the nation.

Phone records placed him as a key suspect with call logs revealing that he was in communication with Sharon before her death as well as some of the suspects.
