Police Spokesman reveals why security detail attached to MPs,Governor and Senator allied to DP Ruto were withdrawn

Police Spokesman Charles Owino breaks as 'team Tangatanga' associated ith DP Ruto protest

National Police Spokesman Charles Owino

Police Spokesman Charles Owino has revealed why security detail attached to MPs and governor allied to DP Ruto (popularly called team tangatanga) were withdrawn.

Addressing the press, Owino defended the decision, stating that it is an on-going procedure that will affect all leaders.

He revealed that the police service is currently undergoing a transformation process that would see administration police officers offer protective services.

“We have recalled our officers who have been undertaking protective services and then the services will be given by administrative police. So no MP, Minister, governor or senator will totally lose his (or her) security.” Owini clarified.

Politicians whose body guards were withdrawn are those perceived to be anti-handshake and have been critics of the deal between Uhuru and Raila.

In the video below, courtesy of NTV, Owino addresses the concerns raised by the affected MPs.

Among the affected are MPs Aisha Jumwa( Malindi), Kimani Ichungwah (Kikuyu) Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati) Alice Wahome (Kandara) Nakuru county Senator Susan Kihika and Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu.

Protests by team Tangatanga

The affected politicians who are closely associated with Deputy President William Ruto and have endorsed him for the 2022 Presidential elections raised questions on the criteria used as no politician allied to President Kenyatta or Raila Odinga were affected.

The also wondered why they were not fore-warned even as they alleged political intimidation.

Ichungwah told a local media house that he suspects that the security withdrawal was a targeted and calculated political move to intimidate him and coerce him and others over their political standing.

A fiery Ichungwah stated that “No reason were communicated to myself and all I can find in this withdrawal is a calculated and targeted political move to intimidate and coerce me and others over our political views and standing”.

“Anyone who imagines that political coercion, intimidation and threats of political assasibations can and will direct political discourse in modern Kenya is living in the very dark past of our democracy and I will remain steadfast in what I believe in and will not be coerced into submitting to the parochial tribal politics.” He added.
