Kingi meets DP Ruto, speaks of Coast leaders forming an alliance with the DP

An alliance between DP Ruto and Coast leaders in the making

Led by Kilifi governor Amason Kingi, the leaders however maintained that any political alliance must be based on terms favourable to the region and not merely taking political sides without agreements.

Kingi called for caution and urged Coast leaders to first unite the region before going to the negotiation table to discuss alliances.

"Stop endorsing the DP and focus on uniting the region, then sit down with him and agree on how to work together," Kingi said.

The Kilifi governor divulged that the region would work closely with the Jubilee administration as they had the blessings of opposition chief Raila Odinga.

“Since independence, we have listened to a voice from outside the region. This time round, we shall not listen to anybody from outside. The decision on where Coast will go will be made by the people," he added.

He spoke in Malindi during an Iftar dinner that was also attended by DP William Ruto, Majority Leader Aden Duale, Devolution CAS Hussein Dado, Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya.

Earlier attempts to punish rebel ODM MPs who have declared support for the DP was met with resistance.
