An angry mob in Bungoma village on Tuesday lynched a senior police officer who brutally shot and killed a boda boda rider in broad daylight.
According to witnesses, Khachonge Police Station Deputy OCS Paul Kerich engaged in a heated argument with the boda boda operator, George Simiyu, before shooting him four times; twice on the chest, once in the armpit and once on the neck.
Simiyu was with a friend who was also shot twice although he survived and is admitted at Tongaren Health Centre where he is undergoing treatment.
The shooting sparked outrage with the residents angrily lynching Kerich who was said to be in civilian clothes.
The incident came barely hours after boda boda riders had barricaded the Ndula-Hambichi Road to protest against its deplorable state.
The deputy OCS was reported to have been assessing the damage before he lost his cool and went on shooting spree.
In another incident of police brutality, a rogue policeman was on Tuesday evening shot dead by his colleague in Embakasi after he shot and injured a civilian.

The officer,Philip Mgandi Kalinga, was in plain clothes when he shot a civilian and attempted to flee to the nearby Mukuru kwa Njenga slums.
The incident attracted the attention of police on patrol who pursued him and shot him.
He died on the spot while his victim survived and is recuperating at Mater Hospital.
