NASA’s bill to split Kenya and consequently form the People’s Republic of Kenya has received approval from IEBC.

Through a written response from the chairman Wafula Chebukati, Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has gotten a go ahead to start the drive for a referendum process.

The MP, who was part of NASA’s bench in the petition against the IEBC and Jubilee party, seeks to have seven counties form the Central Republic of Kenya while the other 40 counties to be part of the People’s Republic of Kenya.

Mr Chebukati gave Hon kaluma a condition of entirely sticking to the law when pushing for the referendum process. “Proposed Bill is entirely within your purview in terms of the aforementioned provisions of the law,” wrote Mr Chebukati. This response gives the lawyer and NASA much needed confidence to seek for secession.

Constitutionally, the lawyer has two options; to go the parliament way and lobby for two thirds majority or go through the long popular vote process where 20% of the of registered voters in 24 counties have to approve it for succession to be realised. The Jubilee party has 163 out 349 seats, which makes it the party with the most seats in the current parliament. It is unlikely that the MP will go the legislative way.

In the bill, the MP sites that the currently government has marginalized certain parts of the country while also “ready to do anything including political assassinations.”

Four county assemblies, Vihiga, Busia, Homa Bay and Siaya have already approved the seven point motion required to kick start the secession campaigns.
