Deputy President William Ruto has been asked to record a statement with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and come clean on what he knows over the Sh 21 Billion dams scandal.

Addressing the public in Sega on Saturday, Siaya County Senator James Orengo noted that the DP appears to know more about the billions lost in the Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal and as such should record a statement with the DCI.

“I’m giving a challenge to Ruto to go to the police and make a statement. He should tell us where he has gotten the figure of Ksh.7B.” Orengo said.

The Senate Minority leader stated that contrary to DP Ruto’s claims that the amount involved was 7 Billion, the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has further established that the money could have been more than the above mentioned figures.

“(DP) Ruto was telling the country that we have lost only Ksh.7 billion, (Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry) Rotich said it is Ksh.21 billion; today there is a government statement coming from (DPP) Noordin Haji saying it is Ksh.65 billion,” Orengo asserted.

The Siaya Senator slammed the DP for claiming that the war against corruption was targeting specific individuals with some of his closest allies alleging that the Kalenjin community in particular is being targeted unfairly.

“Ruto should not hide behind his community. He is lying to the world that Uhuru is taking people from the Kalenjin community to court. I have a government record here; out of the people who have been taken to court, Kalenjins are only six,” Orengo said.

DP Ruto, Raila clash

Orengo is the latest to fault the DP for meddling into the dams scandal with investigations are currently underway.

Last weekend, a team of ODM legislaors came out guns blazing demanding that DP Ruto should make his interest in the two dams scandals public and challenging him to give independent constitutional offices space to do their work and establish the truth.

The scandal has seen the DP and ODM party leader Raila Odinga clash with DP Ruto alleging that Raila is keen on wrecking Jubilee.
