Aden Hassan Mohammed (22) and Ibrahim Ali Guyo (19) who were arrested after a taxi driver drove them into a police station

Two armed gunmen suspected to be Alshabaab operatives were arrested on Saturday after a driver they had hired to ferry them from Somalia to Kenya tricked them and drove them to a police station.

Police also recovered a cache of weapons from the suspects identified as Aden Hassan Mohammed (22) and Ibrahim Ali Guyo (19).

The two men had hired a driver to ferry them from Hosingo area in Somalia to Hamey.

However, upon reaching their destination, the pair changed their minds and requested to be driven to Hagadera in Kenya.

Request to avoid highways and stick to unmanned routes through the bushes

The driver got alarmed after his passengers insisted that he should avoid highways and stick to unmanned routes through the bushes.

Abubakar complied to this request, driving his passengers through the bushes before making his way to a police post, to the surprise of his passengers.

A thorogh search conducted by police saw them recover a Marakov Zeska pistol and several rounds of ammunition.

A white powdery substance which has since been taken for forensic analysis was also recovered.

The authorities are investigating whether the two might have been involved in terrorist activities, most recently the Riverside attack that left 21 dead.
