A court in Kenya has sentenced two men to death for the robbery and sexual assault of a woman in 2014.

The East African country experienced a raft of incidents in 2014 when women were subjected to public stripping and shaming in an unsanctioned public campaign against what was considered indecent dressing. The rampant incidents led to protests in the streets of Nairobi and on social media under the #MyDressMyChoice.

The ruling, passed by a Nairobi Chief Magistrate becomes the first for a case involving the public stripping incidents even though the main charges were robbery and sexual assault.

According to the facts of the case, in 2014, a female passenger on a Githurai bound bus was accosted by the driver of the bus and his conductor. They robbed her off her cell phone and money as well as other personal items .The case gained notoriety after a video of the incident, filmed by other passengers on the bus was made public, showing the victim pleading with the men not to assault her

The sentence is not expected to be carried out however as the East African country has not executed anyone since 1987.
