Squad for Rugby U20 out as the trip to Madagascar draws near
The head coach of Chipu Paul Odero has named 25 players who will be battling out with other African Countries in the Championships.
The rugby team, Chipu will be jetting out for the Africa U20 Championships come April 17 to redeem their lost glory during the 2016 edition.
The team will open their fight against Zimbabwe on April 20, then face Namibia in their second tie.
“Namibia is a bit ahead of us but I wouldn’t take anything from the boys; we are capable and we will give them a run for their money. The team is shaping up well and I am confident we will do well in the assignment ahead. Our target remains to get to the final,” he said.
Among the players who made the final cut is SportPesa Quins duo of Erastus Karani Kakai and Roxy Dan Suchi who will be one of the two assistant captains. Strathmore Leos’ Gabriel Josiah Adero will be the team skipper while Xavier Kipng’etich Bett will also slot in as an assistant captain.
A good number of the team that represented the Nation last year has been maintained. The team lost to Zimbabwe 26 – 27 in the semis, and skipper Adero believes they have worked on the mistakes that let them down then.
The team has received great support from Sponsors SuperSport who have offered a Team manager to them.
Jimmy Mnene will be travelling with the team to ensure all things run smoothly.
