Bizarre reason why Yego lost Javelin title
It is an unusual recurring situation.
The Kenyan athlete was forced to bow out of the competition due to groin injury which saw him lose the title to German Johannes Vetter in London.
Vetter hit 89.89 metres to finish above Czech Jakub Vadlejch (89.73m), Petr Frydrych (88.32) in that order with Yego coming last.
According to Daily Nation, the African & Commonwealth record holder has explained that his recurring groin injury is the reason for his fall in the recent past.
“I felt some piercing pain in the groin on my right leg after the first attempt. I tried to get some good momentum in the second and third attempts but I just couldn’t. I was fine when I came to London with just some slight ankle injury that I was managing well.”
In the end, Kenya collected 11 medals to finish second behind the eventual champions United States of America, which collected 30 medals.
