Government promises to build nine stadiums
It’s now not five stadiums as was in 2013, it’s four more.
Speaking during the launch of their manifesto on Monday at Kasarani Stadium’s Indoor Arena, Deputy President Hon. William Ruto stated that their government will make sure nine stadiums are complete within a couple of months across the country.
He mentioned stadiums in Eldoret, Kisumu, Mombasa, Chuka, Wote, Moyale Nyeri, Kiambu and West Pokot insisting that they have chosen to better their 2013 promises.
In 2013, they promised to build five stadiums including Eldoret, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru and Garissa but five years later, the country is still waiting to see the promises fulfilled with only one month to the next general elections.
"In six months’ time, the stadium in Wote will be complete. In three months’ time, the stadium in Chuka will be complete, in three months’ time the stadium in Moyale will be complete, in six months’ time, the stadium in Kamariny in West Pokot will be complete ,in a couple of months the stadium in Eldoret will be complete.
"In Nyeri, the President gave the out the title and the program has been rolled out, in Kiambu, in another three-four months the stadium will be complete.
"We have a small challenge in Mombasa because the county government has issues of ownership of the land although all the contract has been signed. We also have a small challenge in Kisumu because the county government has not relocated the dumping site which is next to the stadium; as soon as that is relocated that process will be complete. So instead of five stadiums, we actually went for nine, just to make it better."
Their announcement comes at a time when Kenya is desperately in need of standard stadiums for hosting the Chan 2018 tournament, a competition whose hosting rights might slip off Kenya’s hands if everything doesn’t go well by October.
