National Super League side Palos FC is a team to watch in the race for Kenyan Premier League promotion but is everything right to fuel the desire?
This is a team which performed remarkably well in 2016 and started off well in 2017 but it seems a number of issues are slowly killing the players’ morale.
P Live has been reliably informed that favoritism and bias treatment from the club’s administration is becoming the order of the day at the Kisumu-based outfit with all blame fingers pointing at Chairman Patrick Imbuga.
Key in the discussion is players’ salaries, sacking and hiring of coaches and fielding of players which our source, who spoke on grounds of anonymity, says sometimes involve a hand from the management.
“Our morale is not as it was in the past. We have witnessed a lot of favoritism in the manner in which the salaries are being paid and I think some of us are slowly getting tired. How can a new player be paid Ksh 20,000 and a player who has been here for a longer time with even better form be paid Kshs 10,000? I think something has to be done in good time,” the player said.
When contacted for a comment over the same, Mr. Imbuga expressed shock in the news explaining that he is always up and down to improve the players’ welfare and that none of the accusations is true.
“That’s not right. We are always committed to supporting our players in whichever manner. We recently bought them new jerseys and I think they are psychologically at peace. You know, you cannot impress everyone in the society so I’m not surprised with such allegations. Palos is a professional team whose main goal is to play in the country’s premier league.”
CEO Nicholas Ochieng’ admitted that they have had challenges in paying salaries but insisted that they are doing what is possible to motivate players for proper performance in the league.
“We (as administration) have never showed any form of biasness because it is simply impossible. Every department has its role in our team. The technical bench selects and fields players as usual so I don’t think we can be involved.”
Palos is currently placed at position seven with 26 points from 17 matches.
