Kenya in tough pool as the 2017 Women's African Club championship kick off

The drawing for the 2017 Women's African Club championship was done on April 5 ahead of the continental showpiece.

Kenyan participants Pipeline and Kenya Prisons were drawn in groups C and B respectively. Prisons are pooled alongside defending champions Al Ahly while Pipeline will face tough opponents in Bafia and Sonatrach of Algeria.Pool A: Carthage, Organizer (TUN), Asec (CIV), INJS (CMR), Ndejje (UGA)Pool B: Ahly (EGY), University (ZIM), Marsa (TUN), Bejaia (ALG), Prisons (KEN)Pool C: Pipeline (KEN), Sonatrach (ALG), Army (RWA), Bafia (CMR)Pool D: Shams (EGY), ARSU (SEY), Sfaxien (TUN), FAP (CMR)

The teams, that had earlier today undertaken their preliminary inquiries, are both confident of going all the way to the title. However, they will face stiff competition from the North African teams that include the host Carthage, Club Sportif Sfaxien and AS Marsa from Tunisia, JSP Sonatrach and Bejaia from Algeria, Al Shams and defending champions Al Ahly from Egypt.

Al Ahly is the most successful club in the competitions’ history with 8 titles to their name, with Kenya Pipeline a close second with 7 titles. Kenya Prisons have 5 titles while absentees Telkom Kenya having 1 title. This makes Kenya the most successful country with 13 titles.

The 2017 Confederation Africaine De Volleyball (CAVB) edition will see first time appearance from Ndejje University from Uganda, ARSU from Seychelles and Asec University of Zimbabwe. Other participants include FAP and INJS from Cameroon, Asec Mimosas form Ivory Coast.

Ksar Hellal Jammel hall, the venue in Monastir, is braced for a colorful African opening ceremony that will mark the 27th anniversary of the games.
