Sickly Kenyan gay writer who suffered severe stroke hints he’s HIV positive

Binyavanga Wainaina has narrated how he’s suffering in Europe where he went to seek medical treatment. He has also hinted he could be HIV positive.

Controversial gay writer Binyavanga Wainaina suffered a stroke in October last year. His family made public appeal to help them raise money for his treatment.

“ANNOUNCEMENT AND APPEAL: BINYAVANGA WAINAINA MEDICAL FUND

On October 31st 2015, Kenneth Binyavanga Wainaina, suffered a stroke at his home near Bomas Of Kenya. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Karen Hospital. His speech was affected, and he needed to undergo MRI and CT scans, in addition to round the-clock observation. The doctors recommended medicinal treatment and specialized speech therapy. Binyavanga was discharged on Friday 6th November.

On Friday 13th November, he developed some physical difficulties arising from the stroke. Following a scheduled appointment with a neurosurgeon, Dr. David Oluoch Olunya, it was decided that he be admitted to Nairobi Hospital for further observation. He was immediately checked into ICU for 24 hours and upon stabilization, he was moved into the general ward. Nairobi Hospital doctors advised that Binyavanga has a chronic condition that affects the blood vessels to the brain making him susceptible to blockages and strokes. They also stated that an immediate intervention is required before extensive therapy beyond first-stage treatment.”

Amazingly, Binyavanga recuperated and flew to Europe for specialized treatment. His encounter in Germany was however shocking; he was beaten silly by a racist German taxi driver early this year.

The renowned author has once again revealed that he encountered racism in Germany; he says he is being treated like trash just because he’s an out gay from Africa.

Binyavanga also hinted he was HIV positive while grumbling about racial discrimination in Germany where he has pitched camp for five months now.

“I am curious about something. I hear frequently that there is a lot of racism in the queer community in `Germany and France, AND most of Europe . I have been in Berlin for five months now, and all I have got to show for being an out gay african intellectual, independent, and not supported by any donor money is silence. NO single LGBT organization in Germany has seen fit to even acknowledge my presence in your country. All I am is a hiv virus. And all my engagement is about the fact that I need medication which costs 1000 euros in Germany, and my private insurance by DAAD doesn’t cover pre-existing conditions. Even friendships are hard to come by in the queer community here. And France where I will be for two weeks starting on the 29th. i mean, you can use me to talk to immigrant communities about being a sane hiv positive person in the world today. ~Nooo....you cannot get over the colour of my skin.” Binyavanga posted on Facebook a few hours ago.
