TV girl sheds off the glamorous city girl look for a tough life in the village (Photo)

With over 10 years’ experience in the media, Yvonne Okwara is what we would call a seasoned journalist.

Is no wonder she was recently upgraded into a News Editor in charge of research and planning at KTN. Speaking to ALI Media fellowship, Yvonne revealed what her new  job entails.

"My specific role is on the input side. To generate story ideas based on what big events have been hitting the headlines or are likely to in coming days,  and also to monitor conversations that may be taking place on social media and see how we can incorporate them into our  bulletins across the day. Ideally we focus on 3 to 4 big stories of the day and I give direction on how we will treat these stories across the different day parts, provide resources like key persons we need to talk to in the story." she said when speaking on her new role.

She also hosts the popular #Checkpoint political show on KTN. In her career she has interviewed dignitaries like President Uhuru Kenyatta, Dep. President William Ruto, Businessman Manu Chandaria, former Head of United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction in Kenya Pedro Basabe, Rebecca Nyandeng (widow of Dr. John Garang de Mabior) and various cabinet secretaries and MPs.

But despite spending a decade in the media and being at the very top as a news anchor, Yvonne Okwara is not too posh for village life.

The glamorous news anchor stripped down the city look for a more village-friendly look in a whimsical leopard dress.

She also tried balancing what looks like a crate/mtungi on her head; caption the photo “Trying my hand at village life!”
