Officers from the electoral commission on Thursday morning barred the press from accessing a building where the Changamwe Parliamentary election votes recount is set to take place.
The scrutiny and recount of the votes for Changamwe constituency was supposed to take place on Tuesday but failed to due to the absence of the deputy High Court registrar who was to be in charge of the whole process.
Judge Njoki Mwangi had directed the recount be done from Tuesday to Friday and the report filed in court latest January 24, 2018.
The development came after Mohamed Mahmoud who vied for Changamwe Parliamentary seat moved to court to challenge the election of ODM Party’s Omar Mwinyi as the Changamwe Member of Parliament sighting massive irregularities and illegalities.
The Judge ruled that the petitioner, Mohamed Mahmoud and his witnesses provided evidence showing evident discrepancies of votes declared in favor of the president, governor, senator, woman representative and MCAs in the constituency compared to what had been posted on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission election results portal.
