"We can't be addressed by your junior", Baringo residents tell Uhuru as they snub DP Ruto rally

The residents claimed the DP visit was non-significant as more than 10 people have already been killed in the past one week alone.

More than 2,000 residents, including 400 teachers in Kabarnet town on Friday held a demonstration and snubbed Deputy President, William Rutos visit citing government neglect in matters of security.

The residents instead said they would attend the burial of "beloved teacher" Philemon Kipkemoi who was shot dead by Pokot bandits instead of gathering to listen to the DP.

The demonstrators stated only President Uhuru Kenyatta can address their urgent issues and not his “junior".

“We would like the President to come in person to address this issue, failure of which we will surprise him by going to State House next week,” said Knut Baringo executive secretary Joshua Cheptarus.

The DP had flown to volatile Mochongoi where he addressed a rally before heading to Baringo North in the afternoon to try and calm down the residents, promising government would address the insecurity challenge that is threatening to get out of hand.

Residents of Baringo have been holding daily protest since last weekend when Loyamorok Member of County Assembly, Frederick Kibet Cheretei and parliamentary aspirant Simon Kitambaa commonly known as pepe were shot dead  under mysterious circumstances at Alfa bar and restaurant in Marigat town.

In total arrogance of the law, the killings have however continued despite the heavy presence of police in the area.

Schools have been closed and thousands of residents have been displaced.

The residents are demanding for immediate disarmament of the pokot community who they blamed for carrying out indiscriminate attacks against them.

Meanwhile killing continued even as the DP was on the ground assuring residents of government security.
