<h1>It is January, you are broke, hungry and looking miserable, why is this month dragging its feet? I mean end month should be here already, like yesterday.</h1>

To add insult to an injury, this hot weather is not doing any favors to your lips, they are so dry like sandpaper and you have no money to buy those designer fruit scented lip balms.

Ouch ouch! You just licked that huge crack on your lips, threatening to form a crater on your mouth, things are dry, tough and hell not pretty.

Just where can you raid to get a quality lip balm to save your poor lips, where?

Hold on! Here is a little secret, you can actually learn how to create your own quality lip balm and save a few coins in the process, maybe even make a tidy sum selling it to your friends.

Great business start this way, just from a hobby in a small room and later growing to a full scale factory.

It is really simple, so time to roll up those sleeves and do it yourself.

Honey has numerous health benefits from preventing cancer as it contains flavonoids antioxidants which help reduce the risk of some cancers and heart disease to reducing cough and throat infections, to moisturizing and nourishing skin so why don’t you also add it in your lip balm? Your lips will thank you.

<ul><li>A double boiler or melting pot (I use a melting pot- as seen in the first photo)</li><li>A glass jar (to mix the ingredients into)</li><li>a metal spoon (to stir the ingredients)</li><li>a metal tsp for measuring</li><li>The recipe yields 1/2 ounce.&nbsp;</li></ul>

<ul><li>3 teaspoons grated unbleached beeswax (Know your source, you don’t want any chemicals in there!)</li><li>5 teaspoons carrier oil (I use&nbsp;jojoba&nbsp;but some other options are sunflower or castor)</li><li>1/2 tsp Vitamin E</li><li>1 tsp&nbsp;honey</li></ul>

For glossier lip balm, use 2 tsp wax and 8 tsp of the carrier oil.

Step 3: beeswax and carrier oil

<ul><li>Melt the beeswax and carrier oil together in the top of a double boiler or a melting pot.</li></ul>

<ul><li>Remove the beeswax from heat and keep Stirring&nbsp;the beeswax and oil together</li></ul>

<ul><li>Add honey and Vitamin E. Mix thoroughly so the honey does not clump.</li></ul>

<ul><li>Pour into your balm holder.</li><li>Let sit 20 minutes before covering or moving.</li></ul>

The whole process should take about 10 min.

Homemade Lip Balm Recipes (using Petroleum Jelly or Vaseline)

Lip balm made from Vaseline (or petroleum jelly) is an economical way to moisturizing and sooth and softens your lips.

Use clean, sterile containers for preparation and storage. You can reuse old lip gloss pots, but thoroughly clean out the old product, then wash with soap and water, sterilize with rubbing alcohol, rinse with clean water and dry the container before reuse.

<ul><li>Vaseline</li><li>Bowl</li><li>Juice extracts, e.g. oranges</li><li>Lip stick</li></ul>

Add some petroleum jelly to a micro wave bowl (any bowl that can stand heat) Use as much or as little as you want. you can actually use all the jelly and then use the empty container to store your lip balm later.

Heat it up.&nbsp;You can heat up your petroleum jelly in the microwave or in a heatproof bowl over simmering water.

Add some color.&nbsp;Tint the petroleum jelly by cutting a small piece of your favorite lipstick, scraping out some eye shadow, or scraping out some blush and mixing it in. Use a spoon to stir it thoroughly. Heat back up to make it easier to stir.

Add a flavor.&nbsp;Mix in a little juice or extract. Add as much as you want depending on how much flavor you want it to have.

Let the mixture cool.&nbsp;Put the balm in a container and use it as needed.

You can have many flavors depending on your taste from lemon lime, cocoa shea butter, mint etc.

Another great way of creating new lip balm is by recycling old crayons. Many top brand of lipsticks in the market today contain a wide array of chemicals which may be harmful, lip balms made from crayons are non-toxic and a cheaper alternative.

Here is how you can make lip balm with your own flavor.

How to make your own lip balm

Water transport along the Kenyan coast is one of the most important means of transportation and whole communities residing in several Islands scattered across Indian Ocean sometimes solely depend on traditional boats mainly used for fishing and transport.

The four most well-known kinds of traditional seacraft along the Swahili coast can be split into two categories: The first two kinds are dugout canoes, with the hull carved from a single piece of wood from a large tree trunk.

The second two kinds are traditional 'dhows' with a pointed bow and square stern - built from planks of wood being nailed and bound together by various methods.&nbsp;

This design of vessel can trace its origins in Oman, and due to the seaworthiness of the vessel, availability of materials, the ease of maintenance, and the efficiency of the lateen sail, construction, and use of these boats have spread throughout the Indian Ocean.

Considering that, here are four Swahili traditional boats you need to add to your bucket list and hop in one and sail off.&nbsp;

This is a simple dugout found in sheltered coastal waters. Mtumbwi is the most basic of traditional boats found along The Swahili Coast. It is a simple dugout canoe, generally carved from a large coastal tree such as a mango tree.&nbsp;

The smaller dugouts have the Swahili name ‘hori’, and are used to move between shore and larger vessels at anchor.

Mtumbwi are usually propelled by a small wooden paddle (kafi) or punting pole.

Ngalawa is an unmistakable sailing outrigger canoe plying lagoons, creeks and near shore waters.

Its slim hull approximately 6 metres long is essentially a dugout canoe or Mtumbwi, which is what this vessel most likely evolved from. The raised bow and higher sides to the hull allow for the Ngalawa to reach out into the open seas. A pointed stern holds the rudder.

Mashua is a general name given to a variety of larger, ‘plank’ built traditional dhow with a square stern, often used for cargo transport, and fishing in the open waters.

The swahili word for a boat is 'Mashua', hence this name of dhow does refer to a broad range of vessels.

Weighing as much as 30 tons and capable of crossing thousands of miles of open ocean, Jahazi is the grand dhow of the Indian Ocean. Today's Jahazi differs little from early ocean going vessels that traded throughout the Indian Ocean hundreds of years ago.

The Jahazi is the biggest of the local dhows and is used mainly to carry cargo and passengers between the islands and the mainland and is found throughout the Swahili coast and beyond across the Indian Ocean.&nbsp;

One theory on the origin of the design is said to come from the skeleton of a whale. With the backbone as the keel and the ribs forming the skeletal structure on which the wooden planking of the hull is fixed.&nbsp;

We explore the secret to his success and how he makes his fortunes in the profitable film industry.

Protisa Creations was started in 2013 when he noticed there was a challenge in the local industry in terms of getting access to film equipment.

“My name is Paul Kihuha but I am popularly known as Protisa. I am the founder of Protisa Creations Life Care Agency (L.C.A), Pakacha as well as Protisa Foundation. My job mostly involves making filming equipment,” Kihuha states.

Mr Kihuha’s story is an inspiration to the youth since it celebrates innovation and being self-employed. As he revealed on a good day he makes well over Sh100,000 from homemade film equipment.

<h1>Over 300 teams from the Rift region will kick off the inaugural Chapa Dimba na Safaricom tournament this weekend.</h1>

The teams from Central and North Rift will take part in the group stages of the tournament in over 70 different venues.

The teams will play in Molo Stadium, Rhonda Primary and Njoro Day in Nakuru while in Keiyo, the teams will compete at St. Patrick’s Iten, among other venues as they seek to qualify for the regional play-offs.

The competition will then move to Western and Nyanza regions in October, Coast and North Eastern in November. Central and Nairobi regions torment begins in January.

“We are glad that the journey to discovering Kenya’s next biggest football stars is finally about to kick off. The Rift region has one of the highest number of teams so we expect to see some amazing action on the ground,” said Nick Mwendwa, FKF, President.

The competition seeks to develop grassroot football, scout youth talent and eventually draft gifted players to the National team. It will feature 1,342 boys teams and 282 girls teams from all over the country.

“We are happy to be part of a tournament that will determine the next generation of great football talent. We wish all the participating teams the best of luck as they try out for a chance to participate in the knockout phase,” said Sylvia Mulinge, Director – Consumer Business, Safaricom.

The group stages will be followed by the knockout phase, regional finals, with the grand finale set for March 2018.

Safaricom has invested Shs100 million towards the program which includes Shs10 million shillings worth of prizes as well as for renovation of some of the community pitches through a legacy programme to provide football related equipment to assist the grassroots teams.

Safaricom has previously sponsored football programmes including Sakata Ball and Safaricom Next Generation in partnership with My Profession Dreams Academy.

Other sports that Safaricom is involved in are Athletics, Golf, Rugby and the Classic Safari Rally.

The winning teams will walk away with Sh1 Million each and an opportunity to go for an international winning camp in London in April 2018.

You see after the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) imposed a plastic ban effective from 1st September, it caught many Kenyans by surprise and even greatly inconvenienced others.

Kenyans scratched their heads on how they would carry simple daily items like milk from their local shops and what about shopping from supermarkets, how would they carry them?

Among the people affected by the ban was Hilda who was reporting back to School but because of the ban she had to think outside the box and invent something to act as her usual and trusted polythene bag, it was time to finally transform her theoretical knowledge to practical skills.

So she created her own invention, an improvised bag made of banana barks and boldly walked to town walking from one supermarket to another doing her shopping and minding her own business.

However unaware somebody had taken a picture of her with her banana bag and uploaded it on social media, within minutes she had become an internet sensation with many Kenyans expressing open admiration for her bold move.

Some even intimated she will be the next famed environmentalist, the late Nobel Laureate, Wangari Maathai.

We'll, for her bravery, yesterday afternoon NEMA officials visited her school to dully honor her for her bold environment conscious decision with a brand new NEMA branded school bag.

She was also appointed the environmental Ambassandor.

She had to think outside the box, it was time to finally transform her theoretical knowledge to practical skills.

<h1>Justin Muturi, has been re-elected the National Assembly  Speaker.</h1>

Muturi was declared the 12th parliament Speaker after beating his challenger by 220 against 1 in round 2.

Muturi won the first round by garnering 217 votes but the selection had to go to the second round because the required 2/3 threshold was not meet.

He is the Seventh speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya.

Muturi will be deputised by Kuresoi North MP Moses Cheboi  who will occupy the seat of the Deputy Speaker after he was the sole candidate to have submitted his nomination papers at the expiry of the set deadline.

He is the first speaker to serve following the re-establishment bi cameral Parliament as mandated by the 2010 constitution.
