Shinyalu Member of Parliament Silverse Amani has been arrested by police for questioning after he allegedly disrupted an event presided over by Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki.

The MP was arrested in his vehicle on Saturday morning while heading to Kakamega town.

Western regional police commander Moses Ombati said the lawmaker was being questioned in connection with the chaos at Solio grounds in Shinyalu constituency on Friday.

"We have been looking for the MP and caught up with him as he left a church on his way to Kakamega town.

"He is being questioned and will record a statement before he is arraigned in court on Monday," Mr Ombati said.

Mr Ombati said that the MP had gone to the function and protested that he had not been involved in the preparations.

P Live has however learned that the MP has since been released from police custody following the intervention of Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale who visited Mr.Anami at the Kakamega police station.

Police released the legislator after recording a statement but told him to report back on Monday.

Senator Khalwale however said that Mr. Anami would only report back after the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet writes to them explaining reasons for the arrest.

Khalwale termed the arrest as a move aimed at intimidating and unnecessarily harassing the MP.
