Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior’s former bodyguard was on Thursday found guilty of shooting a County Assembly official but won’t be jailed.
The man identified as Shadrack Kioko, who is an Administration Police (AP), was sentenced to a non-custodial sentence after he was found guilty of firing at close range during a incident at the Assembly in 2014 that injured Brian Mutua.

Senior Principal Magistrate James Mwaniki ruled that Kioko’s decision to fire at close range was unlawfull despite all bodyguards present during the incident having had opened fire.

Three police officers who had been charged with Kioko were however set free on the basis that they were right to have opened fire to disperse the crowd that had accompanied Makueni County Governor Kivutha Kibwana.
Mwaniki however decided not to jail the AP after he had appealed to be granted the type of sentence in order to take care of his sick father.
Kibwana involved in shooting incident
In September 2014, a scuffle had ensued between Makueni County Assembly leaders and a group led by Kibwana.
The bodyguards had opened fire after the mob led by the governor forcefully made their way to the venue where the elected leaders had a meeting.

The incident had left several people injured among them Kibwana’s body guard and the County Chief of Staff then, Douglas Mbilo.
The officers had been arrested after a directive issued by the then Police Inspector General David Kimaiyo.
