A report on Monday revealed that a drug resistant Cholera had been found in Kenya for the first time.

The findings made by the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) indicated that the new strain is different from the others reported in the continent.

Two months ago, the Nairobi City County had announced a Cholera outbreak after several cases had been confirmed.

County Director of Health Dr. Lucina Koyio had stated that a series of cases had been reported in the region.

Koyio had ordered all referral hospitals to reactivate their treatment units to prevent the spread of the disease.

In April this year, one person of the catering staff at Nairobi Hospital, was alleged to have died following the breakout of the disease at the facility.

It was further proclaimed that five other members of the kitchen staff were admitted after the occurrence.

Confirmed reports had noted that the number of patients that had been admitted to the hospital with cholera had risen to 58.

Samburu County Hospital ran out of drugs as patients are left worried over where to get the medicine.

Patients at the facility raised concerns after they claimed that Tuberculosis(TB) drugs at the medical institution had been depleted.

A section of the sick at the hospital had further pointed out that they may be forced to seek fresh treatment as reported by Nation.

In January this year, Mbagathi Hospital in Nairobi had been hit by drug shortage.

Reports had indicated that the situation at the institution had forced patients admitted at the hospital to buy own medication from private pharmaceutical shops.

Patients who sought laboratory services had to be directed to nearby private facilities or Kenyatta National Hospital.

Chief Justice David Maraga on Thursday recommended the removal of judges Marete, Waithaka and Muya.

Maraga, who spoke on behalf of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), requested President Uhuru Kenyatta to form tribunals to investigate the three.

“After hearing the following 3 petitions, the Commission was satisfied that they disclosed grounds for removal under

Article 168 (1) of the Constitution and made a decision to Petition H.E. the President for the appointment of

Tribunals under Article 168 (5) of the Constitution,” stated Maraga.

The three judges had been accused of gross misconduct, abuse of office and dishonesty in rulings made.

Petition against Njoki Ndung'u withdrawn

The CJ on the other hand pointed out that a petition against Supreme Court Judge Njoki Ndung'u had been withdrawn.

Justice Ndung'u had failed to appear before JSC after she remarked that the accusations against her had been dropped by Lawyer Apollo who had file the petition.

Apollo had accused had accused Ndung'u and other top judges of the Supreme Court of boycotting work in 2015, in protest of the move by the commission to retire Justice Philip Tunoi after he attained the mandatory age of 70 years.

Deputy President William Ruto's prayer rally in Murang'a was cancelled for a second time after receiving a warning from the Meteorological Department.

The meeting scheduled for Saturday, was put off after the weather man stated that the meeting would be affected by ice rain.

Claims had suggested that the event was abandoned due to political reasons.

Ndindi Nyoro, Kiharu MP, however disregarded the speculations and noted that politics had nothing to do with the decision made as reported by Nation.

“We have been cautioned by the Meteorological Department that we shall receive ice rain and it will not be advisable to hold the prayer rally.

"There is no politics behind the indefinite cancellation of the event and we shall keep the public posted on when to hold the rally," remarked Nyoro.

Last month, the gathering had been called off in what was reported to be a move to give the country time to mourn the passing away of Retired President Daniel Moi's son, Jonathan Moi.

Some MP's from the region had highlighted that the meeting was being disguised for a political rally.

Charles Mwangi, Central Region County Assemblies Forum representative, alleged that it was a plan to make Ruto the kingpin in the Mt Kenya region.

“There was nothing like a prayer rally. To me, that was a plan to install the deputy president as the region’s kingpin while we know that the President (Uhuru Kenyatta) is our spokesman,” stated Mwangi.

A man identified as John Mutinda in Kitui County, hacked his newly wed wife to death using a machete.

The suspect is alleged to have committed the act after a family feud ensued between them.

Mutinda's mother stated that his 19-year-old son approached her and asked to be taken to the police station after he killed Ciru Murimi by mistake.

“He knocked at my window and requested me to take him to the station because he had accidentally killed his new wife after a misunderstanding,” explained the mother.

Sicily Gatiti, Kitui Central sub-county police, remarked that the reason behind the murder of the 18-year-old lady, is yet to be established.

The criminal was arraigned in court and detained for an extra 14 days to facilitate investigations into the matter.

On Tuesday, a man in Trans Nzoia County was arrested after he hacked his wife to death following a quarrel over money made from tomatoes sold at the market.

Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Ayub Ali had confirmed that Prisca Cheruto was killed after she refused to give the husband, Daniel Koech, the money made from the sale.

The body of the deceased had been found with deep cuts on the armpits and stomach that had been inflicted by a panga used by the suspect.

Husband "accidentally" slashes newly wed wife to death; asks to be arrested

Four women on Wednesday fought over a body of a man they each claimed was their husband.

The three were identified as Janet Wambui, Lydia Wanjiru, Susan Wakuthii while the fourth's identity is yet to be established.

The women had made their way to Kirinyaga County Funeral Parlour to claim the body of Peter Mwangi Gichobi, who was a boda boda rider.

Gichobi died after he was involved in a road accident on Nyangati-Embu road a month ago.

Reports had claimed that the 32-year-old had a son with each of the women.

Health CS Sicily Kariuki on Wednesday appointed Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore and Citizen TV Digital Content Manager Mercy Oburu, as board members of the National Cancer Institute.

Collymore and Oburu will join two other appointees namely David Makumi and Evangeline Njiru,in serving at the institute for the next three years.

The two bosses have both battled and overcome cancer cases.

The latest development comes weeks after the Safaricom boss stated that he would be leaving the mobile giant company in August.

Results from an autopsy carried out on baby Ethan Muendo who died at Shalom Hospital, revealed that the child had a swollen brain.

The process that was conducted at the Montezuma Funeral Home, showed that the baby had developed breathing problems.

Pathologist Daniel Zuriel who undertook the procedure stated that the brain controls the breathing hence a complication to it impedes the biological process.

Zuriel noted that extra tests would be done to other specimens collected from the dead child and analysed at the Government Chemists.

He added that the child's brain had been removed and stored for further examinations.

"The cause of death in this matter is respiratory depression and this is because breathing is controlled from the brain.

"We want to establish whether the brain was swollen because of the alleged morphine. We cannot speculate,” remarked the Pathologists.

Reports had indicated that the family may be forced to bury the child without the brain as investigations would take approximately six months to conclude.

On Monday, reports emerged that the 7-month-old baby had passed on after receiving treatment at the hospital.

The late Baby Ethan, who is the son to KBC journalist Jonathan Muendo, died after a morphine overdose.

The baby had been taken to the hospital following a minor burn suffered on Sunday evening as the parents sought to ease his pain.

Following the incident and concerns raised by Athi River residents, the facility was shut down after an order from Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.

DPP Noordin Haji on Tuesday announced that murder charges against Migori Governor Okoth Obado would not be dropped.

Haji disregarded earlier claims that charges against Obado had been withdrawn in regards to Sharon Otieno's murder case.

"The DPP has not and doesn't intend to drop murder charges against Migori Governor Okoth Obado.

"Obado and his 2 co-accused are charged with 2 counts of murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno and her unborn baby," remarked the DPP.

Through their lawyer, Sharon's next of kin had noted that the decision would have weakened the case and offered the embattled Obado and his accomplices a way out.

County authorities on Tuesday claimed that the anomalies in the budgets for Nyeri, Laikipia, Kitui and Kakamega were caused by the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS).

Nyeri County Executive Committee member, Robert Mwangi alleged that the system altered information that was keyed in for a county government program.

“There is the challenge of the flow of information from the IFMIS Hyperion module and the IFMIS General Ledger where some information related to the newly created spending units is altered by the system in the process based on the parent programs,” remarked Mwangi.

Mwangi reitereated that the program is changed to that of the national government for standard budgeting and reporting.

According to Murungi Nadi, Laikipia County Finance Executive, noted that the information given by the Auditor General's report was incorrect.

“The budget we presented to the Controller of the Budget had no such items. The Auditor General Report is erroneous.

"Someone must have put such items to achieve some end,” said Nadi.

Laikipia county had irregularities for funds allocated to primary, day secondary and university education.

Waititu copy pastes State House budget

Last Thursday, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu was in trouble after it was showed that he had authorised a budget report duplicated from State House.

Waititu had been summoned before the Senate to explain various issues raised by the Auditor General regarding the usage of public funds in Kiambu County.

Among the issues raised, was the allocation of Sh 973 million for coordination of State House functions, Sh 58 million for South Sudan peace process, and Sh 804 million for free primary education. Another Sh180 million was budgeted for statutory benefits for the retired presidents.

Uhuru's system blamed for odd budget for counties

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Monday received Sh 200 million from the United Kingdom to help aid with the disaster management response.

Sonko stated that the money would be used to improve the way Nairobi deals with disasters.

“We are reviewing the Nairobi County Disaster Management Act, 2015 so as to be more responsive to current unforeseen threats as well as developing a new disaster management plan and a new policy for the capital city,” remarked Governor Sonko.

The funding was made possible by the Global Challenges Research Fund that had a project of funding five cities across the world in regards to disaster preparedness.

The County boss stated that Nairobi was among the lucky cities to receive the gesture and the finances would be allocated to dealing with the flash floods during the rainy season.

“We often face flash floods, disease and epidemics and everyday threats like air pollution and collapse of buildings.

"However, we are determined to ensure no life is lost to disasters, especially the avoidable ones,” explained the Nairobi Governor.

Last month, flash floods hit the capital after a heavy downpour that led to the death of one person and destruction of property in various estates around the city.

A woman identified as Vivian Awour, lost her life after she was swept away by flash floods that occurred at Silanga area in Kibra.

Activist Boniface Mwangi was on Monday released hours after being arrested over claims of leading a revolution.

Mwangi, had revealed that he had been apprehended at his house by DCI detectives and taken to the Central Police Station.

According to reports, the police indicated that the controversial Mwangi had been taken in for questioning in reference to allegedly organizing a rebellion against the Jubilee government.

The arrest of the embattled activist comes five days after a colleague of his was arrested during an anti-graft protest at Uhuru Park grounds.

Beatrice Waithera, had last Thursday been taken into police custody after the officers disbanded the protest planned by the group identified as the 'Red Movement'.

Mwangi together with a group of other activists had marched to Central police station to demand for her release.

A pregnant mother and her second born daughter were on Sunday murdered by a terror gang in in Matungu, Kakamega County.

The gang which is claimed to identify itself as '14 brothers' have been on a run of killings in the area with 14 people now reported dead in a span of two months.

The lady identified as Petronila Mungayi and her family, were ambushed in their home and the mother killed on the spot.

The 3-year-old child injured during the night attack had been rushed to Kakamega County Referral Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The deceased's husband, Stephen Rabuochi , and the first born, had also been rushed to the hospital to receive treatment for the serious injuries inflicted by the criminals.

Abdiruzak Jaldesa, who is the County Commissioner, stated that investigations into the matter had already begun.

“We are following crucial leads that will lead to the arrest of those behind today’s killings,” remarked Jaldesa.

Following the recent killing, Administration Police officers and the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) in the tension filled area, were on Monday transferred.

The move came after residents of the area complained of laziness of the officers in dealing with the killers.

Area MP Justus Murunga and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya had demanded the immediate relocation of all police officers based at Ejinja AP camp in Matungu.

The decision to move the officers is seen as a way to improve security in the region.

County Police Commander Wilkister Vera assured the locals that patrols in the night would be intensified to deal with the killer group.

Registration of persons through the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS) officially began on April 2 after it was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta in Masii, Machakos County.

The 45 day registration exercise is expected to come to an end on May 17 and so far an estimated 23.5 million Kenyans have registered in the exercise dubbed Huduma Namba, a number confirmed by interior CS Fred Matiang’i.

However, Persons that will have registered during the 45 day exercise will not be immediately issued with a Huduma Namba. All those registered will be issued with acknowledgement slips to show that their data has been captured.

After the mass registration is complete, verification of the data provided by individuals will begin and after successful verification of details given by registered persons, Huduma Namba will then be processed and the Number issued.

A person’s data will be verified using the existing information for accuracy and if any discrepancies are found they will be addressed.

According to the government, if the information provided does not match that which exists, Assistant Chiefs will be used to forward the issues to the relevant agencies for conclusive resolution.

Details captured by the NIIMS registration include names, gender, date of birth, age, citizenship, information about parents or guardians, place of birth, phone number, email address, physical and permanent residence and marital status among others.

Three people lost their lives on Friday after a head on collision between a truck and a saloon car at Kenani area, Kibwezi along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

The three that died including the driver, were passengers in the saloon vehicle.

The accident occurred when the truck heading from Mombasa to Nairobi collided with the saloon car that was travelling in the opposite direction.

Police are yet to establish the cause of the incident.
