Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is no longer at ease after a taskforce she set up to investigate the deplorable state of Kerugoya County Referral Hospital revealed its findings.

According to Governor Waiguru, the scandal that hit the hospital was orchestrated by six officials at the hospital working with her political enemies.

The rattled governor noted that the nasty picture portrayed of the hospital was a set up to make her administration look incompetent.

"The task-force we had set up to look into the matter has completed its work and we also had a delegation from Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) that visited the hospital and they have submitted to us their report.

"There was sabotage and we are investigating further to know which politician is behind this fiasco.

"We shall wait for investigations to be completed but in the meantime the situation is much better now at Kerugoya Hospital," she stated on Tuesday.

Waiguru-Ngirici long drawn battle

Governor Waiguru insisted that one politician is responsible for the hygiene crisis at the hospital.

Kirinyaga Woman Representative Putity Ngirici has been the Governor's fiercest critic and she was among the first politicians who exposed the lax cleanliness standards at the Hospital.

The frosty relationship between Governor Waiguru and the MP has been attributed to Ngirici's aspiration for the gubernatorial seat in 2022.

The governor promised disciplinary action for the officers implicated in the report.

"The report recommends how we can improve the status of the hospital and it also calls for disciplinary action against officers who colluded to paralyze operations at the hospital.

"We have handed the report to the taskforce for them to begin implementing it…We will not allow people to play politics with the lives of Kirinyaga residents," Waiguru asserted.
