Motorists have been alerted on a disruption that will occur on two of the major highways in Nairobi.
Police have advised motorists to avoid Uhuru Highway and Thika Superhighway on Thursday morning as the World Rally Championships (WRC) Safari Rally will be flagged off.
The notice outlined that the two major highways will be used by the Rally drivers after the event is flagged off at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
Nairobi Area Traffic Commander Joshua Omukata asked motorists to avoid the highways between the hours of 8:00 am and 12:00 pm.

Commander Omukata added that the ceremonial flagging off by President Uhuru Kenyatta will begin at 12:45pm.

Gazette Notice on Road Closure
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i also issued a Gazette Notice on the roads which would remain closed to allow for the event to take place.
"Pursuant to Section 69 (b) of the Traffic Act of the laws of Kenya, notice is given that the following public roads will be closed to all heavy commercial vehicles weighing 3 tonnes and above to guarantee safe and secure operation of the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally Kenya, 2021," the Notice read in part.
On Thursday, the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway will be closed off at Eldoret from midnight to 7:00 pm.
On Friday, the Kericho-Nakuru Highway will be closed off at Kericho while on Saturday the Nyahururu-Nakuru Highway will be closed off at Nyahururu from midnight to 7:00 pm.
On the final day of the event, Mombasa-Nairobi-Mai Mahiu-Naivasha highway will be closed off at Mlolongo while the Narok-Mai Mahiu road will be closed off at Suswa.
"After 0600 Hrs, all heavy commercial vehicles weighing 3 tonnes and above are required to park at the designated parking and await the above road opening time," the notice read.
Members of the public were further notified that the Kikopey-Elementaita Village Road will be closed to all users between the hours of 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday and Saturday.
