1. Runda
This affluent estate is one of the largest gated community in the country. It is secured by a number of barriers, which are manned 24 hours by guards on Limuru Road, Kiambu Road, the UN Avenue and the access to Mumwe. The average price for a house is Sh50 million with the average rental rate standing at Sh350,000 per month.

2. Muthaiga
It is the home of choice for many of the country’s wealthiest individuals. It also serves as the home to many ambassadorial homes including that of the American envoy to Kenya. The posh estate has top-notch security with carefully tended grounds and houses similar to the English country estates.
The estate is home to Muthaiga Golf Club and neighboring Windsor Golf Club. The average price of a house goes for Sh65 million while it will cost you a staggering Sh400, 000 per month to pay house rent.
3. Karen
This affluent neighborhood was once a coffee plantation owned by Danish author, Karen Blixen-Finecke. The estate is characterized by a mix of old colonial bungalows and lovely villas.
It is also home to high-profile citizens and politicians such as Deputy President William Ruto and NASA Co-principals Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka. Average rental price could go for Sh200,000.

4. Kitisuru
It is located beyond Westlands; in a hilly undulating landscape. Kitisuru is undoubtedly the preferred residential area for families that have children attending the International School of Kenya, Peponi School and Rosslyn Academy.
It’s close proximity to the UN complex is a reason why security at the estate is of high standards. Just recently, it was reported that Kitisuru is home to Kenya’s most expensive home with a price tag of more than Sh600 million! Rent goes for an average of Sh350,000.
5. Gigiri
Gigiri is the hub of diplomatic entities including the UNEP, the United States Embassy, Canadian High Commission among others.
It is considered as one of Kenya’s most posh suburbs alongside Runda and Muthaiga which are close to the place. Moreover, the residential estate hosts the large Village Market complex. Average rent stands at around Sh250,000.
6. Nyari Estate
Another plush estate that is composed of expatriates, high-level diplomats and affluent Kenyans. Most of the units comprise spacious maisonettes boasting of penthouses with excellent finishing, well-manicured gardens complete with swimming pools and recreational courts such as a tennis or squash courts.
To buy a house in this suburb estate, one will have to pay an average of Sh45 million whereas the rent starts from around Sh250,000.
7. Rosslyn
The green and lush area is a suburb of Nairobi carved out of former coffee plantations. It is located on the north side of the city, just south of the Limuru road.
The houses have well- manicured and ample lawns and the security is good as the streets are patrolled by private security firms. Rosslyn is close to high-end schools such as Rosslyn Academy and the International School of Kenya.

8. Lavington
Lavington is home to high end mansions that cost no less than Sh50 million. It has been a favorite among Kenyans even before the coming of high rise apartments.
It is preferred by the country’s elite for hosting some of the best schools in Kenya such as St.Mary’s, Loreto Convent school, St.Austin’s Academy, Braeside School among others. Average rent is about Sh150,000.
