Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru on Tuesday morning
His untimely death shocked the country and marks the second demise of a Governor of Nyeri County.
Gakuru’s death has also created a vacuum in the County’s top seat.

However, the constitution dictates that if the office of the county governor becomes vacant through death then the Deputy Governor assumes office as county governor for the remainder of the term of the county governor.
This means that Deputy Governor Mutahi Kahiga is the new Governor of Nyeri.
Gakuru has only served as Governor for less than two months. He succeeded Governor Samuel Wamathai who took over the leadership of the County after the death of Nyeri first Governor Nderitu Gachagua.
