The trade war between the two countries escalated after Nairobi excluded Tanzanians among travellers exempted from mandatory quarantine in a new list released on Tuesday.

This means travellers from the neighbouring country will continue facing a mandatory two-week quarantine to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) nullified the approval granted to Fly 540, Air Kenya Express and Safarilink Aviation.

The Three airlines operate daily flights to and from Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar.

“Reference is made to the approval for your summer schedule application extended to Air Kenya Express. The approval was granted to Air Kenya for scheduled flight operations between Nairobi and Kilimanjaro with effect from March 27 to October 25."

"However, we regret to inform you that this approval is hereby nullified,” a letter to Air Kenya’s operations manager read in part.

TCAA did not give any reasons as to why it nullified the approvals but reminded the privately owned airlines they will have to apply afresh for any operations into Tanzania.

Speaking during the 11th Presidential address on Covid-19 pandemic on Wednesday, Kenyatta stated that no one will be protected from prosecution if found culpable.

"Following the allegations of graft at KEMSA, relevant agencies are fully seized with the matter, this case should be expedited and be concluded within 21 days thereof due to public interest," the President stated.

"I want to reiterate that all person's found culpable should be brought to book notwithstanding their public office or political and social status," he continued.

This comes amid protests by Kenyans after an expose by NTV's Dennis Okari aired gruesome details of how funds meant to help fight COVID-29 were embezzled from Kemsa.

The funds include loans and grants from institutions including the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to support Kenya's efforts to combat the virus.

According to the exposé records on the donations showed that two companies were authorised to receive the consignment at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) but there is no record to show how the donations were thereafter distributed.

One person has been burnt to death after a gruesome road accident at Suswa, along the Narok-Mai Mahiu road.

Videos shared online showed vehicles on fire although residents had attempted to put out the fire but they were overpowered by the raging flames.

From January to April 954 people perished on Kenyan roads, an increase of 0.1 percent compared to the same period last year where 953 people succumbed.

The report indicated that the number of passengers who have lost their lives on the road has gone down compared to the same period in 2019.

NTSA's report indicated that four out of every five crashes in the country can be attributed to human error and brake failure.

President Uhuru Kenyatta joined other leaders in sending condolence messages to the family of Garissa Township MP Aden Duale following the death of his mother.

Mr Duale lost his mother Mama Hawa, on Tuesday and the President joined other mourners who had comforting messages for the family.

.The President mourned Mama Hawa Kosar Shurie as a humble, hardworking and devoted woman of God whose wise counsel shall be dearly missed.

He wished the Duale family fortitude as they come to terms with the loss of their matriarch, according to a statement by State House Nairobi.

The Jubilee Party also stood with Duale's family sending the condolences message to the Garissa Township MP.

"The Jubilee Party condoles with Garissa Township MP Hon. Aden Duale &amp; his family following the demise of his dear mother - Mama Hawa Kosar Shaurie," their message read.

"May the Almighty God provide strength &amp; comfort as they come to terms with the painful loss. May Mama Hawa rest in eternal peace," it continued.

Deputy President William Ruto also remembered Mama Hawa as a devoted religious woman who raised diligent children.

"Our heartfelt condolences to Garissa Township MP Aden Duale for the loss of your dear mother Hawa Kosar Shurie," Dr Ruto said.

"Mama Shurie was a devoutly religious, respected and responsible woman who raised upright, hardworking and diligent children despite prevailing tough conditions," he added.

He further stated that Mama Hawa will be remembered as a counselor and peace advocate who uplifted the less fortunate in the society.

AU envoy Raila Odinga also sent his condolences message to the Duale family.

"My condolences go out to Garissa Township MP Aden Duale , my political son and his wider family on the passing on of their mother Mama Hawa Kosar Shurie. Poleni sana. May the Lord grant them comfort at this difficult moment and may Mama Hawa Rest in Eternal Peace," Mr Odinga's message read.

The United States of America donated Ksh63 million of personal protective equipment (PPE) and information and communications technology (ICT) equipment to the Ministry of Interior departments.

This is among other donations presented by the USA to Kenya as the world fights Covid-19.

On Tuesday, the donations by the U.S. State Department Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), were sent to support the National Police Service, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and the Kenya Prison Services.

“The COVID-19 crisis reminds all of us of the importance of protecting both public health while also providing a safe and secure environment for all Kenyans," U.S Ambassador Kyle McCarter said.

"A healthy police force is essential to achieving this objective.&nbsp;It is critically important that Kenyans follow public health guidelines, and it is equally important that police are able to enforce these regulations ensuring safety and respect for all," he added.

The PPE will be distributed to prisons across the country, especially maximum and remand prisons where demand is greatest since <a href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/news/48-staff-and-inmates-test-positive-for-covid-19-at-the-kericho-gk-prison/1zd128l">inmates and staff members have also tested positive for the disease.</a>

The 129 correctional facilities in Kenya, often crowded and with compromised hygiene practices, have had strict containment measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Kenya Prison Service (KPS) suspended visits to all prisons, borstal institutions and youth corrective training centres to contain the bug.

USA donates equipment worth Ksh63 million to help fight Covid-19

The County Assembly of Kirinyaga has been closed for 21 days over Covid-19 fears.

All MCAs were asked to self-isolate for the next three weeks and strictly adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health.

In a memo issued by the clerk of the county assembly, Kamau Aindi the assembly will be reopened on Monday, September 14, 2020.

A mass testing exercise was carried out last week on Wednesday where a few MCAs and staff members were tested for coronavirus.

However, the&nbsp;majority of the MCAs skipped the testing exercise and they were asked on Tuesday by Aindi to liaise with the office of the Director, HR and Administration, Leah Ireri to be facilitated.

Former Likoni Member of Parliament Masoud Mwahima is dead.

The former legislator died on Monday night at his Vyemani home in Likoni, Mombasa County.

Mr Mwahima is said to have suffered from asthma complications, which he had been treated for on Sunday.

“We took him to hospital after he had complained of asthma yesterday (Sunday), and when we brought him back, he was okay," his son Juma told a local daily.

A Kisii resident has filed a court petition seeking to compel Safaricom to reveal how much was raised by Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leaders via M-Pesa funds drive to pay striking teachers in 2015.

In 2015 an initiative by Cord coalition revealed it had collected Ksh100,409 from the public through a mobile money account meant to raise funds for Kenya’s striking teachers, Safaricom announced.

During a rally at Uhuru Park Former Primier Raila Odinga announced that he and his co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka had each deposited Ksh100,000 in the M-Pesa account.

This was contradicted by Safaricom a day later who disclosed that only Ksh129,501 had been collected in the campaign.

The M-Pesa paybill account number 672672 was registered on Wednesday by ODM through its then executive director Oduor Ong’wen, records from Safaricom showed.

Consumers will pay an additional Ksh1.7 billion annually to Kenya Power for electricity thefts and leakages.

Kenya Power was allowed to bill consumers the additional losses for electricity bought from generators that do not reach home and businesses.

Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (Epra) reviewed consumer tariffs and allowed Kenya Power to recover system losses equivalent to 19.9 per cent of power it buys from generators such as KenGen.

This is projected to increase consumer retail prices by Ksh0.20 per kilowatt-hours (kWh).

"Epra has made amendments to Gazette No 8043 of 2018 in respect of the schedule of tariffs, charges, prices and rates to be charged by the Kenya Power Company to consumers of electrical energy," read a statement from the authority.

"Target system loss factor in transmission and distribution is amended from 14.9 per cent to 19.9 per cent effective July 1, 2020," it continued.

Additionally, consumers’ annual payment to Kenya Power will increase by Ksh1.77 billion based on the 8.84 billion kWh that homes and businesses consumed last year.

A mission to rescue a woman who was kidnapped and raped turned tragic after a gunfight ensued.

The 26-year-old woman was shot in the thigh and leg as police tried to rescue her from two rapists near Nairobi’s Northern Bypass.

According to police and her relatives, Mary Wanjiru was kidnapped from her house in Nairobi’s Zimmerman estate and taken to a thicket near the Northern bypass, where two men assaulted her.

Her friend called police to report the news of the kidnap and officers went to the scene to rescue the woman.

Police ambushed the rapists and one of the attackers shot at the police forcing the officers to engage them in a shoot out.

Officers realized the victim had been shot and was bleeding profusely and rushed her to the Jacaranda Maternity Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The suspect with the gun managed to flee the scene while police captured his accomplice who is currently in custody.

A police search was conducted at the scene and recovered spent cartridges of a pistol and AK 47 rifle.

Nairobi police boss Rashid Yakub said they recovered two sets of spent bullets - from a pistol and a rifle - which will be analysed as part of the probe into the incident.

African Heads of State have come out to condemn the military coup in Mali during which saw President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita seized by mutinying soldiers.

During a Thursday meeting led by the African Union Chairperson Cyril Ramaphosa, the leaders called for the immediate release of President Keïta and senior members of his administration among them the country's Prime Minister Boubou Cissé.

On his part, President Uhuru Kenyatta urged for a "speedy, peaceful and democratic" resolution of the crisis.

48 staff and inmates tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday at the Kericho GK Prison.

The Kericho County&nbsp;Department of Health had carried out mass testing and collected 75 samples where 48 turned positive for coronavirus.

Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony said, in a statement that all 48 cases were in a stable condition while contact tracing is underway.

Governor Chepkwony urged all the residents with relatives and friends in the correctional facility to stay calm and reminded the public to follow the stipulated health guidelines.

With a messed-up contact tracing in the country, the number of suspected Covid-19 cases in quarantine facilities has reduced significantly.

Seventeen counties which have quarantine facilities do not have a single person in those centres, according to the Council of Governors (CoG).

The Council of Governors has expressed concern over delayed COVID-19 test results for counties.

Speaking on Thursday CoG Chairperson Wycliffe Oparanya noted that this posed a risk in spreading of the virus in communities.

He noted that is the situation is not addressed in a timely manner will render futile Kenya’s efforts in fighting the pandemic.

“Council of Governors staff who undertook a mandatory COVID-19 test on August 14, 2020, received their results one week down the line as opposed to the expected 24 hours," Mr Oparanya said.

"This begs the question of how much longer it takes for the ordinary mwananchi to receive their results?” he posed," he added.

CoG asked the Ministry of Health to expedite the turnaround time for testing results to enable proper and timely management of the virus.

“Cumulatively in 43 counties, 10,490 tests have been carried out, of which 740 healthcare workers tested positive," the CoG chairman said.

"To support the infected workers, County Governments have put aside quarantine facilities specifically for the frontline health care workers to facilitate their recovery,” he added.

Kenya has recorded 426 positive Covid-19 cases from 5168 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

This brings the total number of cases to 31441.

Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi announced that 10 people had succumbed to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

"10 fatalities have been recorded. Three of these are community deaths and the total number of fatalities now stands at 516," CAS Mwangangi said.

According to the CAS, 257 patients recovered from the coronavirus and discharged.

"426 test positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours bringing total number of confirmed cases in the country to 31,441," she continued.

All the new cases are Kenyans except 9 who are foreign nationals.

The youngest is a three year old while the oldest is 88.

CAS Mwangangi&nbsp;further revealed that the country was currently at a positivity rate of 7.9%, which was a steep rise from the 2% recorded at the start of the pandemic.

Interior Ministry has responded to a story by NTV that suggested Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i asked Deputy President William Ruto to resign.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Ministry termed the report by NTV as false and malicious.

"The unverified report is a misrepresentation of the true record of the proceedings readily and publicly available even to NTV, in Parliament's Hansard records," the statement read in part.

"The net effect of such fabrications can cause disharmony in the executive arm of government," it continued.

The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has started reviewing pay for State officers which will see an upward review.

Reports indicate that the President, Cabinet secretaries, judges and Members of Parliament from July next year could be earning more to contain inflation and compensate for the 2017 salary cuts.

“The commission will also carry out a salary survey to collect data which will inform the salary structures for the 2021/22-2024/25 remuneration review cycle,” SRC chairperson Lyn Mengich said.

Salaries of principal secretaries, the Attorney-General, the Chief of the Defence Forces, military service commanders, heads of the police as well as chairpersons and members of constitutional commissions.
