Burundian head teacher sentenced to five years in jail after he was busted taking student's exam

He has also been banned from teaching or holding public office for a decade.

Benjamin Manirambona, who heads Butere Technical College, has also been banned from teaching or holding public office for a decade.

Mr Manirambona was arrested by police officers who were roped in after receiving a tip-off.

He was taking the electronics exam for a soldier who is serving in Somalia with the Burundian peacekeeping force.

The soldier wanted the grades to qualify for university and promised to pay Manirambona upon his return. The head teacher admitted to the deception on the spot.

His two accomplices have been sentenced to two years in prison and are banned from holding public office for five years.
