Kenya's Harambee Stars enjoy yet another sweet victory against Malawi’s flames, days after humbling Ghana

Buoyed by Sunday’s win, coach Migné retained much of his winning first team players, only making a single change in his starting lineup against Malawi.

Jockins Atudo was given a starting role ahead of Philemon Otieno who picked up an ankle sprain in the first half of Kenya vs Ghana match and was consequently ruled out of Tuesday’s friendly.

Before the match, Harambee stars striker, Michael Olunga who also plays for Japan’s Kashiwa Reysol club said the match was important and a great opportunity for players, who did not feature during the Kenya vs Ghana weekend match.

“The friendly against Malawi is important and we look forward to it. On the same note, I want to say I was very impressed by the local players who featured against Ghana. They gave it their all and their performance should be a motivation to other local players that when they get a chance they need to work hard and prove they deserve it,” Michael Olunga said.

On Sunday, 10-man Harambee Stars faced off with Ghana’s black stars in a thrilling match that ended in 1-0 in favor of Kenya.

Ghana’s Nicholas Opoku scored own goal three minutes to first half breather which saw Kenya level on points with Ghana after two rounds of qualifiers, with both sides on three points.

Gor Mahia defender Joash Onyango was sent off at the hour mark after a reckless tackle on Ghana striker Majeed Waris.

Kenya and Malawi had contrasting results in their weekend Africa Cup of Nations qualifier matches.

While Kenya registered a famous 1-0 win over Ghana, the Flames of Malawi got a 3-0 bashing from Morocco.
