The Tuesday afternoon attack comes exactly three years after Al-Shabab fighters overrun a Kenyan army base in the town of El Adde in Somalia killing dozens of soldiers.

The number of soldiers that lost their lives during the January 15 2016 incident is yet to be revealed amid the different reports that put the tally at over 100.

Last year, the country had placed security on high alert after it was revealed that Alshabaab were known for a notorious trend of celebrating deadly incidents by staging “anniversary attacks."

The date was set by the military to honour the brave soldiers who paid the ultimate price while defending the country in the war against Al Shabaab insurgents.

Reports had indicated that four perpetrators arrived at the junction linking Chiromo Lane with Riverside Drive and remained parked for thirty minutes before the incident.

The perpetrators then forced their way into the parking lot and thereafter a huge explosion, believed to have been a suicide bomber, went off at 3:50 pm at the Secret Garden Hotel.

The suspected terrorists were believed to have begun shooting indiscriminately which is still ongoing in the top floors of the buildings.
