President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday morning joined the nation in mourning Interior and Coordination Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery.
While addressing the Nation from State House, Nairobi, Mr Kenyatta stated Education Cabinet Secretary will be the acting minister in Nkaissery's docket.
"I have taken this morning the decision of appointing Dr Fred Matiang'i as the acting minister of internal security to ensure that there is no vacuum.
"I wish to assure Kenyans and all our friends of good faith that Kenya is secure," Kenyatta said.
The Head of State eulogised Nkaissery as a personal friend and colleague.
Kenyatta recounted his last moments with the CS stating: "We spent the better part of yesterday praying for peace for this country and as late as 9.30 pm last night we were discussing issues pertaining and relating to peace to unity in this cöuntry.
"On one of his last notes we spent discussing his great passion which was Kenya's preparedness for the junior athletic which is meant to commence in the next few days," the President remarked.
Kenyatta sent his condolences to the family and urged Kenyans to maintain peace and unity, something he said Nkaissery fondly known as the General always preached.
