Flydubai becomes the first UAE national carrier to offer direct flights to Mombasa

The airline deployed a Boeing 737 aircraft, offering four weekly flights from Dubai to Moi International Airport.
Flydubai's move aims to enhance trade and tourism, fostering increased connectivity between the UAE and East African markets.

A report by The East African disclosed that Flydubai deployed a Boeing 737-type aircraft on the route, departing from Terminal Three at Dubai International Airport (DXB) four times a week to Moi International Airport. The days of flights are Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

The airline noted that the cost of flying from Dubai International Airport to Mombasa would be around 846 United Arab Emirates Dirhams (Sh37,000), which is similar to KQ’s price.

Abel Gogo, the Airport Manager at Mombasa International lauded the move by Flydubai, noting that this would allow for more competitive prices amongst airlines.

"The entry of Fly Dubai is good for Mombasa as a region. With this expansion, we are going to witness increased movement of businesspeople and tourists into Mombasa," he said.

The UAE airline is for the first time initiating direct flights to Mombasa, since 2016 when Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia awarded them the rights. The airline now stands as the first national carrier to offer direct flights from the UAE to the city of Mombasa.

The list of African regions Flydubai has direct routes to includes; Addis Ababa, Alexandria, Asmara, Dar es Salaam, Djibouti, Entebbe, Hargeisa, Juba, Mogadishu, and Zanzibar.

“Dubai has seen steady growth in investment from Africa since Expo 2020 with more than 26,000 African companies registered with Dubai Chamber. Our direct flights to Mombasa and our growing operations in Africa will further support free flows of trade and tourism between the UAE and the East African markets,” said Flydubai CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith.
