Pilau - simple recipe

We know you have too much to do especially now that the weekend is finally here. I mean, you got laundry, you have to wait for census people to come knocking and the list is endless. And however busy you are, your stomach knows none of it. It will still demand food.

So, let’s spare you the headache of thinking what you are going to make for dinner tonight. You must have had too much of ugali, boiled rice, and chapatis during the week. Time for a change, right?

Try out this super easy pilau recipe by Kui’s kitchen:

Pilau masala - either store-bought or freshly grounded

Lots of onions

Cooking oil

Beef broth

1 teaspoonful sugar

Good quality rice

Boil meat until it’s well cooked and tender. If the meat is already soft, you don’t have to boil it.

Drain all the water and make sure the meat is perfectly browned.

Fry the onions and add garlic and ginger just before the onions are fully cooked. At this point, you will have to be careful to make sure the onions don’t burn.

Then add pilau masala, salt, and sugar. Let it cook for about a minute before adding your beef. Cover and leave it for a while.

Add the potatoes and let them cook for a while. Now add your beef broth.

Once the water/broth starts to boil, add your already washed rice. Cover and leave it to cook.

After the rice has boiled for some minutes, reduce the heat and let the rice simmer until it’s cooked.

Serve your pilau with kachumbari and savour the greatness of the delicacy.
