NASA bigwigs begin retreat as flag bearer headache hits

The leaders will be converging at a hotel in Kilifi where they will consider a report by the NASA technical committee. The report sparked disquiet in NASA.

Even as the heat in coalition over the flagbearer mounts, the meeting is aimed at agreeing on a suitable person out of the four, to take on President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August General Election.

The four are Raila Odinga of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Musalia Mudavadi of Amani National Congress (ANC), Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula of Ford Kenya.

The leaders will be converging at a hotel in Kilifi where they will consider a report by the NASA technical committee which is understood to have presented a 12 simulations of the way the vote would go based on combinations of the four principals.

“The NASA National Coordinating Committee has given an exhaustive progress report to the Summit whose membership consists of the party leaders of the NASA constituent parties. A further progress report will be made to the summit before the principals go for a retreat on 17th, 18th and 19th of April,” a statement from the NASA National Coordinating Committee co-Chairman James Orengo told journalists last week.

ANC, Ford-Kenya and Wiper Democratic Movement dismissed as propaganda reports that the National Super Alliance has settled on Odinga as the flag bearer and Musyoka as his running mate, with Mudavadi as the Chief Minister.

The proposal has angered Mudavadi and Kalonzo supporters who expect to have their candidates named the flag bearers, while arguing that Odinga has been on the ballot previously and lost.

The leaders have lately come under criticism for taking too long to agree who among them will be presidential flag bearer amid speculation of major internal divisions.
