Footballer McDonald Mariga has taken action a day after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) annuled his candidature for the Kibra Constituency by-election.

Mariga on Wednesday filed a petition with the IEBC Dispute Resolution Committee challenging the decision to bar him.

The first-time politician maintains that he is a registered voter and should be allowed to vie for the elective post which fell vacant after the death of former MP Ken Okoth.

Mariga's representatives have insisted that he was registered as a voter in Starehe Constituency sometime this year.

They have further blamed the incident on an administrative error by the elections body.

If the Jubilee Party will not be satisfied with the decision of the IEBC committee then they are free to pursue the matter in a court of law.
