Governor Nyong’o orders suspension of county Askaris recorded dragging woman with vehicle

Kisumu Governor, Prof. Anyang Nyong’o has ordered for the immediate suspension of 12 county askaris recorded dragging a woman on Wednesday, using their vehicle.

In a statement seen by Pulse Live, the Governor said he had directed the City manager to have the officers involved suspended, until investigations are completed.

While away in Nairobi on official Council of Governors’ meetings, I have been saddened and shocked by a very unfortunate incident in Kisumu, following the arrest and mishandling of a lady trader by the City's enforcement officers yesterday morning.

As investigations continue on this matter with the urgency it deserves, I have directed the City Manager to immediately SUSPEND FROM DUTY all the Officers who were involved in this incident with immediate effect, until the conclusion of the on-going probe on the matter,” read the statement.

Governor Nyong’o called on Kisumu County Askaris to respect human rights when carrying out their duties, as he promised to update the public on any development in the matter.
