EACC goes after 3 top government officials to recover Sh1 billion

They acquired massive wealth in a short period of time

According to Citizen Digital, EACC said that the three; Thomas Gitau Njogu, Joseph Gikonyo and Stephen Osiro obtained money within a short period, yet none of them earns above Sh200, 000.

Njogu who is an assistant accountant at the Interior Ministry is said to have acquired wealth amounting to Sh115 million in one year with only a salary of Sh97,000.

He is reported to have no bank loans and is said to own a 0.7 acre land in Thome Estate valued at Ksh.40million and two parcels of land measuring an 1/8 of an acre each in Kabete.

EACC said Joseph Gikonyo who is a KRA manager in Eldoret could not account for Sh615 million he acquired in eight years, with a salary of Sh119, 000. Gikonyo has heavily invested in three prime properties at the Coast including a six-acre piece of land in Mtwapa valued at Sh27 million.

He was allegedly developing apartments on a 0.6-acre piece of land in Nyali valued at Sh125 million and residential houses in Shanzu at a cost of Sh25 million. He is also reported to have 12 vacant plots scattered across the county: a three-bedroom maisonette at Greenspan Estate and another plot where he has set up an office block and carwash business.

Osiro who is also former Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero’s co-accused in a case of defrauding the county Sh213 million could not account for property worth Sh330 million acquired from 2011-2016.

The former Nairobi County head of accounting earned a net salary of Sh65,000 monthly and he allegedly owns ten properties scattered across Kisumu County listed for repossession valued at Sh158 million.

Osiro has six properties in Nairobi ranging from two-bedroom apartments to a maisonette under construction totaling Sh138 million located in Runda, Lavington, Kileleshwa and Mbagathi.
